26th January, Saturday; another day in my life, Thank god! It was Saturday so don’t have to hurry for office and can lie down on my bed longer. But, once the sleep is broken, lying down is so difficult, also there was no light and hence I can’t read news paper (don’t ask me the significance of light and news paper). Finally I pulled myself out of bed by 10:15 (it’s too early for me on a weekend) and thought of doing something which does not require electricity- cant play songs on comp, cant watch TV, cant switch on geyser, can’t read anything.
zapak…the light came and we (me & two of my roommate) thought of watching India-Australia cricket match. The match was on a dead-end and it was better to surf the channels, may be to get glimpse of something interesting, suddenly the Republic day parade was there on the oldest channel of the country. Those Brahmos & Agni Missiles, that Dhanush defense system, those tableaus of different states & departments, all took me back to those good old days.
Days, when we used to get up early in morning to join Prabhat Feri, when we used to go to school to see the hoisting of Indian Flag, days when getting laddus & samosas were the best thing on the Republic & Independence Day. When we used to run to home to see this parade on DD, when clamber atop elephants (getting the Child Bravery Award) was the biggest dream we had or at least participating in that parade was a dream. No matter how ill or tired we would have been but being a part of parade was something that would have taken away all the tiredness. When the Motorcycle stunts in the parade was better than any stunts in movies and our ideal were military people (at least mine was, I always wanted to be a doctor from AFMC). Days when “Aye Watan -2”, “Vande Matram” , “Sare Jaha se Acha” and plenty other songs were not rituals to be played but were sung with heart. Days when we used to stand while playing National Anthem not because we should, but because we felt doing that.
I don’t know about others, but looks like as I have grown older, all this sentiments have either been diluted or I have started taking all this in one go, what benefits will I get out of it, by showing these emotions? I doubt about the dilution of sentiments as when I saw the Parade and air show, I was proud to be a part of this country. Whenever anything good happens out of country, I’m proud of that. Outside country, I’m proud to say that “Yes, I’m a Techie from India” But why am not ashamed of so many bad things that happens in country? Why I actually cut myself out of the ailments of the country as if I’m no one to solve it or responsible for it or at least related to it? May be because we always want ourselves to be associated with the Best, we always look for things which will bring some value addition in the life; when country is doing well, we are happily associated with it, but when something is wrong we will simply discuss it and sit over it. Or may be we are too comfortable in our cocoon that we don’t want to go through the metamorphism and simply want to remain where we are comfortably placed. How many times have we done anything out of just sentiments for country or society? After watching RDB, I felt as if I can do so much for country, but that was just a tempo for 2 days. God forbids, if again tomorrow something like kargil happens, we will simply sit in our office, discuss over our foreign policies, write some blogs, condemn lack of Intelligence information, commend the bravery of our soldiers and will forget in two months what happened. And if something like china war happens, then we will again do the same, will send some email chains around the world that what’s happening is not humanitarian, right; so please pressurize the hostile country to stop doing this. But what will we actually do?
I have been part of army culture for a year or so and I have seen many of my friends’ fathers who were posted in the border, the way they used to think about country and life is totally different from what we do. why there is such a difference? May be we have become too materialistic or we actually do what we should do practically rather than what we want to do emotionally? Many of u will say that we are doing our bit by bringing Foreign exchange to country, making it the best IT destination around the world, safest market to invest in world. But is sitting in an AC office, working when it is must or when there is a deliverable, else at other time doing time pass, making bigger bucks for the IT giants is actually all what we can do to repay our debt towards country? Ya we do repay our county by taxes, but is that all we can do? I agree that we can bring lots of changes, just politics is too bad, there is so much of red tapism, we do need to think about our future, BUT…
I don’t know why I have written this, may be because I’m myself confused and want to confuse others about what I feel or may be just some whim of the mind, frenzy of the moment. In some time, after the office will start and I’ll be again doing some work, all this will be subsided and the sentiments for the society will also be subsided along with it. But still there will always remain something which will prick not mind, brain but the subconscious mind, heart & soul.

good yaar , you think just so much for country , and it's really good :-).
when were u part of military culture ?
anyways , i would like to say something , a system is composed of many different parts ( like for eg. an engineering system ) and a system works good if every part of it is healthy and doing it's bid to keep system running by making well the task assigned to itself.
don't think that if you really are not on border , you are not serving the country , the country is like a big system and you are a part of system , you should not feel yourself of less importance forr national security , you are doing your virtually assigned job very well , you are giving ( or the govt. is taking :-))income taxes properly , you people are bringing foreign exchanges to country which country in turn is spending for bringing in latest of security gadgets for armed forces.
so never think yourself of less importance. regarding email chains etc. , tech. has provided masses the ability to exchange ideas of themselves with others , after reading these ideas it's up to people to take that idea as good or bad one , this xchange of idea thing opens up the boundary of human thinking mind and thus also serves the purpose of national integrity and national growth.
all the systems of the country should work well, because if everyone wil just focus on joining military , destabilization in other part of this huge system will occur , which will destabilize national security too.
and you as a person are doing quite well , you are giving as much time as u can by doing your assigned jobs as well as the jobs you do as a humanitarian purposes , you know what i am referring to.
so you urself are a piller in national security.
good work , keep it up :-) .
i write sometimes very much absurd , forgive me for any mistake here , if there is any.
I'll say that sometime we get involv with ourself that everywhere we look only for our comfort.I can understand the feelings u would have gone through while seeing Parade, as its nostalgia for me also. those school days were full of innocence and selfless love & trust for whatsoever.
Quite a diffrent stuff from u, but at the same time show the gamut of ur thought process.
After reading the blog, my dream of going to NDA, CDS haunted me again.
Seriously remembered those days when getting into army was a dream, and it was my dream also to ride those elephants, that parade...
madam u are growing as a writer and its really nice to know u as a person and now as a writer also...I'll say whatever made u write this blog, it would have been a great tide from past.
wonderful , in this blog i am watching a thought process which if carefully worked upon can lead to second kiran bedi in india.
good description of seasonal patriotic fever............
I have actually grown up with u as a person, and u know one thing u have always amazed me as a human being...U r one of the few people whom i admire and aspire to be...Believe me the variety of emotions, thought process I have seen in u is amazing and it makes me feel that how little I know about u.
This post being totally out of the blue, strikes a cord somewhere, which made me think that we actually always look for "Value Addition" in our lives, not thinking about the past we had and what we need to do to repay the debt.May be a seasonal fever, but still this fever will remain there for some time
Its not that I am not patriotic but I do understand that there are certain things to be felt and respected as an Indian and am fully commited to those...
Excellent blog...certainly desh bhakti jaag uthi....
After reading your blog i remembered one incident that happened on 26th Jan. Me and my cousins went to Fun cinemas, Sigma mall to watch a kannada movie and before the movie began, we were all asked to stand up and the National Anthem was played. A fantasic video was also played which was a tribute to the soldiers of our country. It took me back to my school days when we were hoisting the tricolour flag, playing skits of freedom struggle and studying about our nation.
I totally agree with what you have written in your blog. We all complain about bad roads, corruption and the numerous problems faced by our country. We expect somebody else to solve the problems for us while we are too busy chasing our own dreams, flying onsite and making money.
We seldom realise that the responsibility of building our country rests on our shoulders as much as it does on the others whom we think are responsible.
A very well written patriotic article. keep up the good work.
she writes the way....how to describe..... , she writes straight from her heart and touches us,the reader's heart .... let more good things coming.........
Nice writing Deepali...no doubt in it...
In my opinion, being Patriotic isn't about standing up when National Anthem plays or gettin a pride feel when we see the 26th Jan Parade. Its a feel, a sense of belonging within the country, a society which we should feel as ours, thrive in it and help others grow in the same social set up.
"Honor to the soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause".
The cause here is important and u serve it in the best way u can.
You went to onsite and earned in pounds, but do you know when you encashed in Indian Rupees, u increased the RBI's foreign reserve. Isnt it being patriotic?
Forget about paying taxes, u earn and u spend. Each penny that you spend whether in Indian Brands or Foreign brands, do nothin but aid fellow people from the same society to grow in some way or other. Isnt that patriotic... I feel it is....jus the way we show patriotism has changed over the years...
Deepali...Whatever u wrote is a true feelings that comes daily in any of techee mind ..but wat we teachee do ?? We fight for our another appraisal to increase the money and designation..while ppl are fighting for our great nation ,loosing their life and in return what they get , is pride and piece of soul which we hardly or never get. And I am one of the fool among first category. I read somewhere .."Everyone has power to do impossible but what is the use of that power which is dependent on outside world to execute itself.U have to recognize and wake the power up which is sleeping in one corner of ur mind and have to execute it without waiting for any awaited opportunity".
the author of this whole thing must b a big and great thinker !!!!!
I guess that when we talk about us,we talk about our lives, our family and our career. We dont talk about our society, our country.
A good reading and above all it comes directly from the heart.
Good writing, keep it up.
Good Blog...
In case you are honing your writing skills by writing blogs on variuos ideas from tare zameen par to26th jan...good expressions and good memories....
What I think again we are doing the same thing we are just discussing sitting before our computers nothing more that...
somebody has written that we are paying taxes, we are bringing wealth to our country....and we are one of the pillar of this country......and someboy alo has written very truly that we are just working to get better appraisal next time nothing for inner satisfaction,so what does that inner satisfaction, yes we are pillar an individual pillar of this country who should bring some value to this country also not just their apparaisals and not just for their writing skills so everyone would read their blogs and would comment on thatsomething has to be done substantially which would bring some value to that pillar in turn bring some value to that country tooo
we say that we are apying taxes, if truly speaking we all try to look for the ways how to save taxes so that we can bigger amount of money with us and I know most of us think like that and work on the ideas so that we can save that money for ourselves to buy a house or to buy a land or to go to spend time at a luxurious place that is why we are saving our money. and if government would just say that she is going to pul out this tax idea then we will the happiest person, Thank God!!! we don't have to pay the taxes now and the most releived too.
So wkae you all just discussing and writing all this or getting your appraisals or getting good comments here for your writing.
I understand writing is also important which will spread your message but for doing something writing is not enough you have to move out from your shell you have contribute for our country instead of just saving money for your taxes.
I hope you won't mind but that is waht I feel for this blogger generation who writes anything just for the sake of writing.
Any offences please pardon me
Everybody does have the power to Inflict changes!! may it be for an individual or for the society.. But the decision to do so, also lies within his prowess.. Small time influences can infuse the thinking but cannot steer it to action unless he wishes to do so..
Abe yaar sach me dil khush hogaya is blog ko pad kar.Lko ke sunhari dhoop yaad aagayi, jab hum log papa ki Jeep me,tere papa ke passes ke through yeh sab dekhne jaya karte the.Wo din kitne ache the,ab to sab kuch seriously badal gaya hai.Yeh delhi ki thandak me wo baat kaha hai jo apne lko me thi,26th jan to sach me 1 holiday hi ban kar rah gaya hai.life me sab kuch hai par kahi kuch kam hai.
